전시 제목 '진돗개'는 국지적 위협 상황시 발령되는 군사 경보 조치로, 상황 발생을 뜻하는 '하나'부터 위협이 예상되는 '둘', 평시 상태인 '셋'까지의 단계를 의미한다. 동시대 전쟁 이미지가 소비되는 방식과 시각체계를 탐구해 온 작가는 이번 전시에서 그 작업을 전시장의 물리적 공간으로 확장한다.

<진돗개 하나>는 작가의 군 복무 시절 워게임 시뮬레이션과 FPS 게임 경험이 겹쳐지는 지점에서, 전쟁 재현(Reenactment) 참여자들의 모습을 타블로 형식으로 기록한다. <진돗개 둘>은 게임 속 가상 공간을 1인칭으로 유영하며, 화재로 소실된 노트르담 대성당이 완벽한 형태로 보존된 아이러니한 장면들을 수집한다. <진돗개 셋>은 온라인 게임의 맵과 은어가 현실의 서바이벌 게임장·예비군 훈련장에 재현되는 현상에 주목하며, 실물 스케일의 합판 구조물로 그 이면을 드러낸다.

전쟁을 직접 경험하지 않은 세대에게, 전쟁 이미지가 어떻게 만들어지고 소비되는지 질문을 던지는 전시다. 익숙해진 이미지를 그대로 받아들이기보다, 무엇을 믿고 어떻게 받아들여야 할지 스스로 되물을 수 있는 계기가 되기를 바란다.

The exhibition title "Defcon" refers to a military alert system issued during localized threat situations, comprising three stages: "One," signaling that a situation has occurred; "Two," indicating an anticipated threat; and "Three," denoting a state of normalcy. 

The artist, who has long explored how contemporary images of war are consumed and the visual systems behind them, expands that inquiry into the physical space of the exhibition.

Defcon One documents participants in war reenactments in tableau form, emerging from the point where the artist's own experience of wargame simulation training during military service intersects with that of playing FPS games. 

Defcon Two drifts through virtual space in first-person perspective, gathering ironic scenes such as Notre-Dame Cathedral—destroyed by fire in reality—preserved in perfect form within the game world. 

Defcon Three turns attention to how the maps and slang of online games are reenacted in real-world survival game arenas and reserve forces training grounds, revealing what lies behind them through full-scale plywood structures.

This exhibition poses a question to a generation that has never directly experienced war: how are images of war made, consumed, and distorted? Rather than simply accepting images that have become familiar, it hopes to offer an occasion to question and doubt—to ask for oneself what to believe and how to receive them.
