The 6th edition of FotoFilmic (F/F), a traveling photography competition exhibition based in Vancouver, Canada, and featuring artists from North America and around the world, will be held as FOTOFILMIC18. This traveling exhibition presents 30 emerging and mid-career artists selected from 12 countries and will travel from Polygon Gallery in Vancouver and SF Camerawork in San Francisco to The Reference in Seoul from January 30 to March 7, 2020.

The exhibition comprehensively showcases the appeal of analog and film photography, reborn as the future of photography in a digitally defined contemporary society. The inherent limitations of analog media are transformed into artistic completeness through experience and interpretation, offering a glimpse into both the past and the evolving present of photography, continually rediscovered since 1839.

Hosted annually by the FotoFilmic Foundation, the contemporary film photography international competition F/F is open without restrictions on age, region, or academic background. Ninety semi-finalists are first selected, and from these, 30 final artists are chosen by the jury to participate in the international traveling exhibition. The F/F18 jury included Joachim Brohm (photographer, Essen, Germany), Greg Girard (photographer, Vancouver, Canada), Joachim Naudts (curator, FOMU, Antwerp, Belgium), Barrie Mowatt (director, Vancouver Biennale, Vancouver, Canada), Heather Snider (director, SF Camerawork, San Francisco, USA), and Jeong Eun Kim (founder, IANN & The Reference, Seoul, Korea). Among the final 30 selected artists, one is from Korea. The $5,000 prize from the Buschlen Mowatt Nicol Foundation was awarded to Demetris Koilalous (Athens, Greece).

Coinciding with the Seoul exhibition, a 3-day workshop led by Canadian photographer Greg Girard, who also served as a juror, will be held from January 31 to February 2. Over the past 30 years, Girard has consistently documented the physical and social changes in major cities across Asia. This workshop will provide participants from around the world an opportunity to record Seoul while reflecting on their perspectives and methods of photographic capture.
